  • HIUHBWA 4th Annual Big Island AIDS Walk Participation.

    The 4th Annual Big Island AIDS Walk will be held on Saturday, May 30th, 2015 and is an easy 2 mile walk around Lilioukalani Gardens. Registration begins at 8 am and the walk starts at 9 am. All proceeds raised will stay right here on the Big Island to support Care & Prevention Services to the Hawaii Island Community.

  • HHMH 2015 Calendar Call For Submissions

    The HHMH calendar committee is once again seeking submissions from temple members to provide creative works of
    art fort he Hongwanji calendar. This year’s theme is 2015 – Embrace Change: Awareness (Seek Opportunities)

    The works of art may include photos, drawings, poems, and even pictures of things like pottery and sculptures. The pictures will need to be able to be enlarged to an 8×10 photo quality. Please, include your name, temple, and paragraph with your reflection or thought that describes how the picture relates to AWARENESS.

    This weekend the 102nd Legislative Assembly Giseikai will take place in Honolulu at Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii. Delegates and observers from around the state will meet to discuss current resolutions.

  • Streams of Light Film Showing

    Please, join us on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 5:15 for a special showing of the documentary film Streams of Light: Shin Buddhism in America. The film will be shown at the Na’alehu Hongwanji Mission.

    This documentary film traces the footprints of the Shin Buddhist priests who dedicated their lives to sharing the Dharma in America. The film uses archival materials jointly maintained by the Buddhist Church of America andt he Japanese American National Museum, as well as interviews with priests who are serving in the United States. The film is about 1 hour long. This is no admission fee, but donations are always appreciated.

    We are gearing up for the annual Pahala Plantation Days. This year the event will be held in Pahala on October 12th, with a parade beginning at 9am. Na’alehu Hongwanji will have a booth, and will be having a sushi sale. Stop in and visit us as you enjoy the Pahala Plantation Days.

  • Tour of Nishi Hongwanji Temple, Kyoto, Japan

    Rev. Gene Sekiya, a Hongwanji priest, provides a tour of the Nishi Hongwanji, which serves as the head temple of the Jodo Shinshu. Rev. Sekiya provides a very good description and introduction to the symbolism of the onaijin, or altar area.
